Description

2008 Morgan Roadster Competition Lightweight

The Morgan Roadster was introduced in 2004 to replace the Plus Eight. It is identical to its predecessor with the exception of new modern Ford V6 mechanics. The new engine develops very similar power but with slightly less torque. The new model is lighter than the Plus Eight which results in increased performance and improved fuel economy. Like its predecessor, the chassis is of the standard ladder frame design and is built from galvanised steel with five tubular or box section cross members and the lightweight body is built of steel and aluminium around an Ash frame. The suspension is the traditional Morgan slider type to the front end with rear leaf springs and a solid live rear axle. This very special lightweight racer was built from a bare chassis by renowned Morgan protagonist Richard Thorne. Particular attention was paid to weight saving for this car to be competitive in Class “B” Specification of the Aero Racing Morgan Challenge Race Series. Class “B” allows considerable modifications from the standard lightweight Roadster including four wheel disc brakes with vented fronts, 16” X 7” Image alloy wheels and the use of 225/50/16 Yokohama tyres. Power upgrades to the Ford V6 3 litre engine are also allowed with a bespoke ECU, race cams and big bore exhaust manifolds all of which combined produce around 280 BHP at 7000 RPM. Hence this well sorted race Morgan should prove to be competitive in the right hands. The previous owner has now given up competitive club racing due to advancing years and now considers that this exciting race car needs a younger owner. In the past it has been well placed against stiff competition and has won two of the Morgan Challenge races outright.

As it does not appear to have raced since 2015, it will now require a full race prep before further use but it starts easily and has perfect oil pressure and the competition clutch works perfectly. Also perfect for Hill Climbs and track days and very realistically priced at £24,950
