1965 Sunbeam Tiger MkI 4.2

1965 Sunbeam Tiger MkI 4.2 finished in Deep Ocean Blue with contrasting Burgundy hide interior. It would appear from the history file that this car was the subject of a comprehensive restoration between 1993 and 1996, since when it has covered just 2,950 miles. The car formed part of a private collection between 1989 and 2011 and the steady progression of mileages shown on the 23 Mot certificates within the file show that on many of the intervening years, the only mileage covered was in sending the car for its annual test. (No longer applicable). Derived from the Sunbeam Alpine which was a very soft and pleasant to drive touring car, the Tiger was the brainchild of the Rootes Group competitions manager Ian Gerald who considered that a proper sports car was required to complete the Sunbeam range. Assistance was enlisted from Carol Shelby, the mastermind behind the much renowned AC Cobra and the Ford 260 small block as fitted to the first of the Shelby Cobra's was shoehorned into the Alpine together with suspension and brake upgrades and the Sunbeam Tiger was born. Production of the Tiger was sub-contracted to Jensen Motors Limited of West Bromwich who were well versed in making one-off prototypes and this association proved to be invaluable. A photograph of this particular Tiger (74 VYC) was used on the cover of Michael Taylors very informative book on Tigers, considered to be the Bible for Tiger owners. Although this is an older restoration with a nice degree of patination, it has remained in splendid condition since being restored. Offered for sale and sensibly priced at £59,950
