2007 AC Hawk ACE
2007 AC Ace by Hawk
This outstanding AC Ace recreation by Hawk was built in 2007 and was collected new on the 7th June 2007 by an experienced classic car collector and enthusiast who only buys top class, top quality motor cars (from vintage and classic Bentley’s to modern Porsches) with both outstanding looks and real usability. The Hawk AC was built to the first owner’s specification by Talon Sports cars and an extensive magazine feature in the cars history file covers the cars build and early life. Based near Tadcaster, the first owner covered 10,000 miles in the car and enjoyed using it for overseas touring in Europe and took the Hawk to Le Mans on several occasions. Having enjoyed touring and detailing the car for five years, in 2012 he sold the Hawk to the second owner based in France. The AC Ace Hawk was collected in North Yorkshire and driven faultlessly to Chinon in the Loire Valley. The car remained with the second owner who covered several thousand more miles and in September 2018 drove faultlessly from Chinon to the Goodwood Revival. It was then sold to Brian Arculus, a friend of ours in Sussex who has spent several thousand pounds taking the car to the next level and now boasts 16 inch Aston Martin wire wheels with Avon Turbosteel tyres giving the car a more 1950’s feel and authentic look. The AC now has correct Lucas Tripod headlamps, period correct AC wood rim steering wheel, 1950’s style switches, lights and floor dip switch, a new steering wheel column collar has been fabricated to provide a means to cancel indicators, and a non-dating registration mark purchased, with correct period digit number plates fitted to beautifully finish the car.
The Hawk offers a blend of modern mechanicals and authentic styling based around the AC Ace which was a car that undoubtedly marked the beginning of the evolution of the Cobra. According to research we did in 2012, this at the time was the only UK Ace recreation to be manufactured by Hawk and careful detailing to ensure an authentic look was perfectly executed during the build. The Hawk Ace shares the same twin rail, 3.5 inch diameter round tube chassis as the Hawk 289 and the only significant change to the car since the build in 2007 is the fitting of a Limited Slip Differential. This truly stunning car was built with a 2.5 litre straight six fuel injection BMW engine with custom made exhaust manifold and system, BMW ECU, Hawk wiring loom and 5 speed manual BMW gearbox. The front suspension has double wishbones with Dampertech coil overs and the rear suspension has Hawk competition leaf springs with Spax dampers. The brakes are excellent with Hawk front discs and four pot callipers, rear MGB drums. The Hawk 2.6 has authentic wire wheels with spinners and 185 Avon tyres. The car is beautifully painted in Aston Martin California Sage and the interior is fabulous with low back classic bucket seats trimmed in Porsche green leather, Porsche green carpeting, modified transmission tunnel, Hawk dashboard and door cards covered in black leather.
This superb car comes with a complete hood and frame, half and full size tonneau, spare wheel, battery isolator switch, two sets of ignition keys, T key for bonnet, fire extinguisher and maintenance record and magazine article featuring build detail and road testing. This is a fantastic recreation that has been built to the very highest of standards and on the road the car is quite simply outstanding. The performance is first class; it's quick, powerful, responsive and with its BMW five speed gearbox, smooth handling, tight and firm road holding, and lovely exhaust note it offers a really special driving experience. It is no surprise that the previous owners have enjoyed it so much as a long distance touring car and we are confident this car will not disappoint in looks, condition, drivability and performance. An original Ace today in this condition would leave no change from £200,000. Sensibly priced for a Hawk built to such a high specification and in such wonderful condition at £55,000
