1974 Jaguar V12 E type Roadster Commemorative No 38 of 50 cars produced
In 1974, when production of the Jaguar E-Type was ending, the founder and Chairman, Sir William Lyons, decided to commemorate the huge impact that the E-Type Jaguar had on motoring history and ordered a limited run of only 50 Commemorative Series 3 Roadsters to be produced.
Sir William insisted that the last 50 cars would all carry a brass plaque displaying his signature, the chassis number of the car and the statement "This is one of the last cars built after 13 years manufacture of the Jaguar 'E' Type Sports Car".Sir William also insisted all 50 to be made in black with cinnamon-coloured interiors.
However, a very wealthy Jaguar customer and collector, Robert Danny wanted to buy the very last car (Which is registered HDU 555N and still resides in the Jaguar Heritage collection at Gaydon) but Sir William refused as Jaguar wanted to retain the very last car. To pacify the customer, he offered him the penultimate car and agreed to spray it British Racing Green, so only 49 of the 50 commemorative E-Types were black as originally intended.
TKO 730N is the 38th of the 50 cars produced and the original number plate issued when the car was sold new by Stevensons Motors in Tunbridge Wells, Kent in July 1974. It presents beautifully and has been cherished regardless of cost.
The gleaming black paintwork is in very good order, panel fit is good and the interior is mostly original and presents with an authentic patina. The chrome is good and the wheels are stainless steel. The factory hardtop is included.The car is very reliable, having covered lengthy trips to shows and motoring events, including 5 visits to Le mans.
Fiveextensive history folders document all works done to the car, including a fully photographed and documented engine rebuild. It includes the original tax disc holder, MOT certificates, Handbooks, showroom brochures, details of concours winning events and details of all previous owners etc, three of them between them owned the car over 47 years.
Events and Awards.
In the late 90’s and the year 2000, the car was regularly shown at Jaguar Driver’s Club events and won many Concours D’Elegance awards including:
- Jaguar Driver’s Club (JDC) Winner and Car of the show at Culzean Castle
- JDC National Day Best sportscar
- JDC Car of the Day – winner, Doune Classic 1999
- JDC Winne of Best Pre 1975 Sportscar, Selkirk 2000
Many sympathetic improvements have been made such as stainless steel braided brake hoses, stainless Steel wire wheels, stainless Steel Exhaust System, aluminium radiator, upgraded Ignition system, GAZ adjustable shock absorbers, Immobiliser Switch.
Commorative E types with manual transmission rarely come to market as when they do occasionally change hands it is normally by Private Treaty between owners. Hence this is a very rare opportunity to acquire a significant peice of Jaguar History which can only become more valuable over time.
